This is a 1927 historic
property in the arts district located in central Phoenix. Many European
architectural elements surround this elegant piece of property. In remaking
this older home, many challenges were faced. Much of the exposed
wood beams, period lighting, iron detail, and valve flush bath fixtures remain.
In the formal living
room overlooking the lion head water fountain is a separate seating
area to enjoy the serenity of this spacious room. An antique carved
China topped with greenery balances the massive wood and beam structures
that lead you in and out of this ambient room. The client's art
is the cornerstone to the creation of what is now termed "Old World
Deco" design. The formal dining room needed brightening because
of the sun's positioning. Silks, brocades and damasks were used to compliment
the warm tones. The dramatic hues of the sponged on finish, pulling all
the shades of colors together.
The guest bedroom
and bath were our next project on the second story. I have added a 26"
poured laminate ceiling to create what I call "The Wedding
Cake Room." This a very cozy intimate space using colors of 'Provence'.
The bath became the real challenge. A small space with the radiator
and oak cabinets. The ceiling had been covered with the light soffit box
trimmed in oak with the yellowed plastic cover. The rose star was my
inspiration for this airy bathroom and gained much space by placing
a pedestal sink where oak cabinetry had taken over.
