A "Great Room" from the San Jose Symphony Designer Showcase 2000.
Exciting contrasts such as limestone, wood, metallic finishes, plaster and gesso create
a romantic, exotic, primitive yet sophisticated feel to this space.
Portuguese, Spanish and the French combine the dramatic intricacies
in carpet weaving, mosaic inlay, copper work and pottery. Influences
from ancient Berber horsemen to the more present day artists such as
Matisse and Delacroix inspire the making of this "Great Room".
Fex, Marrakesh and Tangier are present with strong European influence.
Comfortably arranged to appeal to all the senses, this room invites
you in. Spices and tropical fruit combined with color bring you to this
oasis. Waves sounding in the distance and the faint scent of night blooming
jasmine relax you.

North African, Mediterranean,
Fez, Berber, Marrakech. It can be any of these places........it can be
in your home. Imagine the sound of waves out your back door combined
with the scent of orange blossoms, jasmine and ginger. You rise to the
call of the lion. Not just any lion. This lion is made from inlaid camel
bone from Morocco, and overlooks the back gardens and swimming pool.
Morning tea or coffee
for the lion hearted are just the beginning. The ceiling beams above
the lion were hand pounced with copper powder, glaze and a stencil,
taking 125 hours to complete. A larger pass through was made to create
a "Great Room". A fine brunch is on the menu today with all
the touches in place, surrounding the teak table and bench seating.
Special detail was
applied to the once existing brick fireplace. Sheet rocked, plastered,
hand skip troweled in a wave pattern, fauxed, and adorned with a custom
hand tooled copper face plate in a wave pattern, sprayed on the inside
with copper paint and (removable) lighting placed inside, the vision
unfolds. Stained glass made in Indonesia framed in a copper treated
wood frame, sit on top of the limestone hearth set with Moroccan pots.
